"The Task Force on Student Success from the

California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office has
presented ambitious and promising recommendations.
They represent the most promising opportunity for
reform in a decade."
- San Francisco Chronicle - December 4, 2011
In January 2012 the California Community Colleges Board of Governors release a ground breaking Student Success Task Force report. Both 2- and 4-year colleges concerned about student success, will want to review the valuable information and research included within this report.
From this report, it was discovered that students who had a declared program of study or major early in college were twice as likely to complete. Therefore a focus on the development of education plans became a priority for the college system. This data would translate to all post secondary systems.
From that report the following actions have been legislated.
- The California Community Colleges Board of Governors adopted regulations to implement the Student Success Act of 2012 requirement that students declare a course of study by the time they complete 15 degree-applicable units or their third semester.
- SB 1456 refocused funding for existing matriculation programs under the new Student Success and Support Program for orientation, assessment, counseling and advising to develop student education plans, and follow-up for at-risk students.
- System-wide enrollment priorities: New students who complete orientation, assessment and have a student education plan will receive higher enrollment priority.
